“The chapel is quaint and charming with beautiful stained-glass
windows and the hand carved altar. The chapel is placed at the heart of
the school which I think is very significant.”

Special Character
Woodford House is an interdenominational school closely affiliated to
the
Anglican Church and under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Waiapu. It
is traditionally enriched by Christian principles and observances, fostering
charity, honesty, tolerance and commitment.
In 1928, the Chapel, dedicated to St Francis of Assisi, was officially
opened and it remains at the heart of the School. The tranquil building
is used extensively for school, memorial and baptism services, as well
as weddings. Its traditions of music, worship and architecture embody the
values of Christian faith.
In times of increasing change and complexity it is vital that young people
have firm foundations in their search for values and attitudes. As a part
of guiding the spiritual life of the school, our Chaplain and Principal
lead weekly services for all students. Families are encouraged to attend
our regular evening worship.
The Special Character of the School also encompasses the development of
music, speech, drama and sporting endeavour in an environment enriched
by small classes.
“The chapel is a place of solitude for students, encouraging
quiet reflection, community-based worship combined with a sense of fun.”
