General

All Year 7 – 11 students participate in a health programme. We also have a designated health centre, with a School Nurse, and visiting Doctor and Counsellor, supported by other health professionals. Dietary requirements can be given to our caterers and nurse, with steps taken as necessary.

  • Years 9 and 10 – three weekends per term.
  • Year 11 – four weekends per term.
  • Year 12 – five weekends per term.
  • Year 13 – any weekend across the term as long as school commitments have been met.

Our Boarding Managers can arrange travel – you can contact them directly on (06) 873 0724 or by emailing boarding@woodford.school.nz

All new entrants are allocated a “Big Sister” from their first day of school. Your daughter’s Big Sister will be in the hall to greet her on the first day, show her the routine and answer any questions she may have.

Limit suitcases to just one or two as the girls have to be able to carry them upstairs. Try to keep unnecessary items to a minimum. An overnight bag is also recommended.

Healthy snacks are recommended, with a few treats. Instant noodles are not allowed.

A medium-sized lockable box approximately 40cm wide by 20cm long by 10cm deep. Some students use a fishing tackle-type box or sewing-type box.

Morning tea, afternoon tea and supper is provided. The girls may take a piece of fruit at breakfast time for their morning tea.

It is recommended that Juniors hand in their named wallets to the House Staff or Boarding Manager for safe-keeping and allocation of pocket money. $10 per week is usually adequate.

A cell phone is not necessary but the majority of the girls do have one. Each year level has different rules for their usage. A restricted usage policy is in effect during the school day (except for Year 13 students who can use cell phones at morning tea and lunchtime). It is also recommended that the girls have an 0800 number for calling home – this can be set up through your home phone account.

Parents

The Chapel Uniform is our “dress uniform”; comprising of: chapel skirt, pinstripe shirt (with tie in winter), blazer and black chapel shoes (available on order from the School Uniform Shop). The straw hat is compulsory for summer dress uniform. Dress uniform (Chapel Uniform) is worn every Friday, at Sunday Chapel, on the first and last day of each term, and on special occasions. Boarders must wear the dress uniform when travelling to and from school at the beginning and end of each term.

The laundry bag needs to be approximately the size of a pillow-case and have a draw-string. It also needs to be named. The School laundry caters for uniform and underwear (weekly and full boarders) and mufti clothing (full boarders only) and it is essential that girls bring extra nametapes or a permanent marking pen. The dress skirt (chapel skirt) is dry-cleaned. Items that require hand-washing are done by the girls themselves. Some pegs, washing powder or soap are useful for personal laundry.

A school bag is necessary. All students are issued with one of the School’s lockable lockers. Black sport-type utility bags (with name embroidered) are available from the School Uniform Shop.
